Planning my wedding last year introduced me to a lot of really great locations in Italy that most tourist do not see or know about. One such place that's been on my mind lately is Cilento. I remember when I accidentally hitchhiked on the Amalfi Coast, the man who went out of his way to proudly show off the region he grew up in told me that I absolutely must visit the area around Salerno. He told me it was just as beautiful as the Amalfi Coast, but not as well known to foreigners.
I didn't think much of it, until Daniele and I considered renting a villa we saw located in Cilento. It was a former monastery in seriously the middle of nowhere. We decided to go with a castle in the middle of nowhere instead, but sometimes I wonder...
I don't have any photos of my own of the area, since I haven't been yet, but a quick Google search should show anyone interested just why I'm aching to go.
It'll only be a matter of time before Cilento becomes overrun with foreign tourist.
