I've avoided looking at the photos from this time in my life because the travel resulted from an ill conceived idea to go to graduate school in the United Kingdom. Little did I know education had already begun a dumbing down process in order to attract foreign student money. I've always been an idealist and it broke my heart to see that.
But positives can always come from negatives. As a result I was able to explore North England, Scotland, North Ireland, and Ireland. Since I traveled Ireland with all the stuff I moved to England with (just one 50lb checked bag), we had to lug around what we loving referred to as "the body bag", but luckily we were able to leave it in Glasgow when we traveled to Oban and in Dublin while we explored the rest of the country. Afterwards I then also took a trip to Nepal and India as consolation, which further opened my eyes.
So after over two years, here are the photos from that time. I'll split it up with England and Scotland here, with another post for Northern Ireland and Ireland.
I'm glad to go through these photos now. There are a lot of place I've already forgotten and thanks to the help of Google I was able to find most of them, but I do remember one place where Daniele and I had to go through an old abandoned underground tunnel to get from one side of the waterway to another. I think I took that photo with my phone and have since lost it, but I think that was over in North and South Shields. Oh wait, yes, it was the Tyne Tunnel, via Wikipedia:
